Spiritual Adoption Prayer Testimonies

In our travels from the March for Life in D.C to the Walk for Life West Coast and the recent Beatification of Fulton Sheen, we have received stories from people about their experience with the Spiritual Adoption prayer. Below are some of those accounts including a personal one that inspired us to continue this prayer ministry. While these accounts are not something recognized in Bishop Sheen’s cause for sainthood, they are certainly a testament to the Holy Spirit working through his prayer that he asked us to pray to the Holy Family.

The Spiritual Adoption Prayer Starts a Family!

Many years ago we were sent the child my wife prayed for through the Spiritual Adoption prayer. Short version below!

My wife found a Spiritual Adoption prayer card in the back of our church with Our Lady of Guadalupe on the front and started praying for an unborn child. On the back of the prayer card, she named the unborn child “Olivia” and also wrote down her start date. It was our first exposure to the prayer and any personal connection to Bishop Sheen. She said the prayer privately each day for 3 years during our wait to adopt a child. At the end of the prayer, she would add from her heart “and send the baby to me”.

After those long 3 years and many tests of our faith, a child was born and the baby’s mother selected us to be her parents. She was named Ella Christine by her birth-mom (unknowingly meaning “She in Christ”). When we first met her after she selected us, she immediately hugged my wife and said when she saw her picture, she knew the baby was meant for her. When it came time for us to give the child our desired name for her birth certificate and to bring her home, my wife said she wanted it to be Olivia. She always loved that name and had been praying for “Olivia” through the Bishop Sheen prayer. I admitted that I was hoping to name our child after a saint who was observed on the baby’s birthday. She agreed to let me look at the Church calendar but made it clear that her name was going to be Olivia! An internet search found that a little known saint was observed on the early church calendar on her March 5th birthday but is now only on the Orthodox calendar. Our daughter was immediately named “Olivia Christine” and we are so thankful for Bishop Sheen’s prayer to the Holy Family and the blessing we received! We contacted Bob Paige who made the cards available through this very website to thank him and let him know what happened. He absolutely refused to take any credit and assured us that he just makes the prayer available and Jesus does the rest. After Bob’s passing we were asked to carry on this ministry and are working toward fulfilling Bob’s desire to reach every parish in the USA and beyond!

A Woman Discovers the Fruit of Her Spiritual Adoption Prayer

A young man approached our booth at the March for Life and said as he approached, “That prayer works!!!”

We asked him to tell us his experience and he said that it wasn’t his experience but a woman he knew who picked up a Spiritual Adoption prayer card and, to remind herself to pray, she placed it on her kitchen wall by her phone (back when we all had wall mounted land lines!). The woman later came to learn that during that time her neighbor next door, who was literally on the other side of the prayer card in her kitchen, had a daughter who had an unplanned pregnancy and was considering abortion. The girl chose to have her child and after learning of this and considering the timing of her daily spiritual adoption  prayer, the woman knew the prayer had an impact on someone very close to her.

While looking to adopt a child, Amy had started praying the Spiritual Adoption prayer and named the unborn child as a part of the prayer and also recorded the date she began praying the 9-month prayer.  She wanted to reach out to young women who might choose abortion and offer to adopt their child. She found a pro-life group who prays outside abortion clinics and decided to go for the first time. She meets a young woman who approached her as she was questioning her decision to abort her child. She had gone to another clinic but was too far along in her pregnancy to get an abortion there. Amy was told that she was 14 weeks into her pregnancy. Giving support to this young mother, she chose not to enter. Amy would later discover that her conception date matched up with the same time she started praying the Spiritual Adoption prayer! She had named the baby in her prayer “Jaina”. When she followed up with the woman from the pro-life group about the young woman several months later, she discovered that she did have her baby and that she named her “Jana”!
